About Us

A Few Words

About Us

The Air Passengers Association of India (APAI) is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit aviation policy think tank headquartered in New Delhi. APAI was re-established with a renewed mission to engage India’s aviation ecosystem in informed debate, research, and scholarship aimed at strengthening civil aviation policy and improving overall efficiency within the sector.

APAI was founded in 1990 by Late D. Sudhakar Reddy, a respected aviation professional who actively worked for over three decades to promote passenger interests and support the liberalization of Indian aviation.

During its early years, APAI focused on representing passenger concerns and advocating reforms related to airline operations, airport privatization, and regulatory transparency.

The Silver Jubilee of APAI in 2016, celebrated at Taj Mansingh Hotel, New Delhi, marked 25 years of sustained contribution to India’s aviation journey and was attended by senior government officials and industry leaders.

Our Evolution

Our Evolution

With the introduction of government-led passenger grievance mechanisms such as Air Sewa, APAI consciously transitioned from a passenger grievance organization to a policy-driven aviation think tank. This evolution ensures that APAI’s objectives remain aligned with national aviation goals and regulatory frameworks, while continuing to provide constructive, unbiased, and experience-based inputs to policymakers and industry stakeholders.
